Knockers will come in all sorts of metals but brass is the nicest and richest looking by far. And since this product is used as an ornamental door piece it is very important to make sure that you are purchasing one that is going to give the best look possible. The brass hardware not only gives your property or front door a little character but it is also a great way to show off a little it of your personal tastes and style. You will want to make sure that you are thinking over a few key points before making your purchase though. The first thing to consider is the style of property that you own. Victorian style knockers would not go well with a modern door on the front of an apartment. As you can see now, it is important to make sure that the door knocker somewhat matches the style of your home. If you have a country themed home then a country themed knocker will go well for example. You will also want to make sure that you are thinking about the style of door on the front of your house. Once you know the exact style of brass door knockers you want, you will need to make sure that you are going with the right color. The brass knockers are not only the most durable but they are also a material that is easily polished into a bright gold color or more of a satin color. It also electroplates with ease which means you can select a door knock that is copper or nickel plated. This is the best way to go, as the brass will not rust since it is nonferrous. Since it will tarnish though you will need to make sure that there is a decent lacquer finish on the brass door knocker or your purchase will be a complete waste in a very short period of time. If you want to have your door knocker engraved that is something that you are going to have to check into. Not all brass door knockers can be engraved so your purchase must be a careful one. In the end you will see the importance in being cautious with your purchasing of a brass door knocker. Even though they do not cost thousands of dollars, they still cost enough to make you want to make sure that you are not wasting your money. Take your time and think everything through. You will be able to see which of the brass door knockers is right for you and you will finally have a completed door that is stylish and inviting.
