Vanishing Fuel Costs With a Diesel Engine

Delivering torque and increasing horsepower is achieved by two things: more fuel and more air. While there has been amazing developments from the aftermarket to push power higher, turbochargers and the related hardware remains the best for a diesel engine to reach new power heights. While ther has always been this need for power and speed, manufacturers now focus primarily on fuel efficiency.

European manifacturers have now joined the race for hybrid independence. The investment however is considerable for a vehicle which may not last for the long haul. Currently nobody knows what the impact will be on the environment when it is time to dispose of the hybrid batteries when they reach the end of their lifecycle. Also, while a hybrid may be fuel efficient around the city, it sometimes is no better on the highway when compared to a conventional gas or diesel engine. I would not be too quick to grab the next hybris that rolls down the assembly line untill such time we see some improvements in overall performance.

Now let us not forget the alternative fuel option such as hydrogen. Hydrogen, once considered dead or impossible, is quickly approaching as a vehicle that will be running along side petroleum vehicles on the roadways. Every auto manufacturer is working on some form of hydrogen and only time will tell if hydrgen will live up to it's expectations.

Until all this develops, plan on focusing on diesel engines and biodiesel as an alternative option for your driving needs. Diesel engines will be here long after conventional gas engines, and will become more and more efficient and cheaper to operate over the long haul. It's unfortunate that Diesel fuel is anything up to twenty pence(UK) more expensive than unleaded petrol per litre.

In the last six months BP claimed to have made a total of £16bn gross profits, yet also claim that they only make a profit of one pence per litre. yeh right!
