Vitamin D Dangers?

The Dangers Associated With a Vitamin D Deficiency.

Scientists are validating the critical role that vitamin D plays in regulating cell division and differentiation. These findings are linking a deficiency of vitamin D to a host of common age-related maladies. These findings are alarming as you dig deep into unstanding the results.

This new research shows startling evidence of a widespread deficiency in vitamin D. Scientists are suggesting to increase vitamin D intake to 1,000 IU per day. The current RDA is only around 400 IU per day.

Our bodies have the capabilities to synthesize vitamin D from natural sunlight. However, weather, being indoors during the winter months, and the increase in sunscreen protection, have greatly reduced our capabilities to produce optimum levels of vitamin D.

Vitamin D is essential in our bodies, regardless of our age. It is found in very few foods, but is added to some and is available as a supplement. Needed for bone growth, and overall health of bones. With out vitamin D, bones can become thin and brittle.

Obtaining vitamin D naturally from the foods we eat can be suggested. In particular, older adults and breast fed babies, as breast milk does not supply a sufficient dose.
In addition people who are obese, see very little sunlight, and have dark skin, should consider increasing the vitamin D intake.

Very few foods offer a natural source of vitamin D. It can be found in some fish flesh such as salmon or tuna, or the fish oils are a good source. Fortified foods with vitamin D are you best source next to a daily supplement.

We should not take our vitamin D deficiency lightly, do something about it today.
