Which Wine Will You Choose

By Peter Sicoli

Which red wine will you choose to have with your dinner this evening? What red will you bring to the dinner party you were invited to? This short article will not answer the questions to which specidfic bottle to choose, but I hope it will sort of explain some of the different varieties from which to choose. I will not attest to being a wine expert, but I can say I enjoy exploring different bottles of wine as well as enjoy eating good food to go along with the bottle I choose.

Barberra- This specific deep red wine will come most successfully in the Piedmont of Italy, and it's predominantly raised in the Central Valley of California thanks to being able to withstand high temperature. This is a bold, not for the faint of heart. A full body, luscious fruit flavors as well as crispness from the large acid define this specific wine. This may be best for the colder months with bold dishes such as a pasta with a hearty sauce or a red meat dish...a good primed beef.

Cabernet Sauvignon- Cabernet is not one of my favorites although I have stumbled across a few that are delicious. These types of full bodied, extremely flavorful red wines have a tendency to increase together with aging, generally taking 15 to 30 months ageing within oak kegs. This kind of ageing gives the wine toasted vanilla flavouring and cedar flavor, although the actual wine likewise includes plum, black cherry, along with spice elements. Today one of the most extensively planted grapes on the earth, the Cabernet Sauvignon grapes actually originate from a mix of a pair of French kinds: Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc.

Merlot- Perhaps one of my favorite choices, it seems to never go wrong with any dish.A good gentler and far less intensive red wine than cabernet which is able to drink far sooner. The particular dry level of smoothness from the wine causes it to be a common choice in dining establishments. Merlot is frequently combined with cabernet wine in order to alleviate its level of acidity. Explanations on the wine's preferences consist of most of the identical to cabernet as well as green olive, herbs, and chocolate. The particular Merlot grape reacts properly to cooler areas rendering it very versatile. This can be enjoyed year round and with all sorts of dishes ranging from pastas to fish. A perfect wine where a dish may call for a white wine by nature, but a red wine is preferred.

Pinot Noir- Commonly viewed as the most difficult grape to grow, this kind of delicate wine is realistically probably the most preferred varieties of wine, originating in the Burgundy area of France. This kind of elegant wine may include components of raisin, black cherry, and strawberry. Name your dish and this wine will go along for the ride. The softness of this wine is one of its benefits. This may not be the one for the hearty meals and you may prefer the merlot or barbera for those, but it will work nicely if you choose. Good and fruity, may even work with those that are not red wine fans.

Sangiovese- This particular dry red wine is characterized by a smooth texture, medium-bodied spice flavours, and a good earthy fragrance. Made from a grape native to Northern Italy, Sangiovese can often be put to use in Italian Chianti wines. A clean soft crisp grape for simple pasta dishes.

Syrah- This kind of tasty wine stems within the Rhone region in France and possesses several raspberry, pepper as well as spice scents and flavors. Besides France, the grape pertaining to Syrah is now extremely successful in Australia. I have come across some from California that are delicious.

Zinfandel- Even though a lot regarding Zinfandel is turned into a fairly sweet rose wine referred to as White Zinfandel, Zinfandel is a red wine made from one of the most widely harvested grapes in California. The particular hearty grape is rather adaptable to some producer's manipulation, rendering it very versatile. Zinfandel is very fruity, with raspberry, cherry, and plum tastes.

Blush Wines- Blush wines or rosé wine, which have a lighter pink shade, are made simply by removing the skins of red grapes at the beginning of the actual fermentation process. This system additionally lightens the flavour belonging to the red grapes, preparing a further gentle wine. White Zinfandel is in fact made as the product associated with "bleeding" regular Zinfandel, or getting rid of much of the juice to heighten certain flavors and color within the wine. The actual juice is then fermented separately.

So many choices. I have been a fan of the merlot grape for several years and have never gone wrong with a bottle of Merlot sitting alongside a dish of pasta, a steak or a plate of seafood. Enjoy your dinner and enjoy your bottle of wine, I am sure your earned it this week.

oops...I forgot that one. Is it still made?

Yes it is still made. Click on the link in my post above.

It's the house wine for rednecks who can't afford the more expensive wine. It goes great with smoked possum.

The Michigan Daily did a study on the cheapest wine and to no one's surprise Boone's Farm's Snow Berry Creek came in at number 1 — Strawberry Hill came in as a close second.

Trader Joe's has a "two-buck chuck" (Charles Shaw brand)as many call it, that actually costs $1.99 and is, in my opinion, the best buy I have ever found. There are several reds, one being a merlot and another a cabernet sauvignon and at least one white, all for the same price. I find the merlot as good as bottles that cost $10 $15 or more. But then again maybe I am just a cheap, ignorant barbarian.
